South Africa signs Prevention and Combating of Hate Crimes and Hate Speech Act
Il presidente sudafricano Cyril Ramaphosa ha firmato il Prevention and Combating of Hate Crimes and Hate Speech Act il 9 maggio 2024, che criminalizza i crimini d'odio e l'incitamento all'odio basati su caratteristiche tra cui orientamento sessuale, identità di genere e caratteristiche sessuali. La legge prevede pene fino a otto anni di prigione e mira a offrire un ricorso legale più completo rispetto al precedente common law. Le organizzazioni LGBTQ in Sudafrica hanno accolto con favore la legge, anche se alcuni notano che potrebbe non cambiare gli atteggiamenti ma fornisce strumenti per la responsabilità.
