Czech Constitutional Court ends surgery requirement for legal gender change

The Czech Constitutional Court ruled that requiring sterilization and castration for legal gender reassignment violates fundamental rights, including physical integrity and personal autonomy. The court quashed the problematic provisions with effect from July 2025, allowing the legislature time to enact new regulations. This decision reverses the court's earlier stance and aligns with European Court of Human Rights jurisprudence.
