On 24 February 2023, Kenya's Supreme Court ruled that the National Gay and Lesbian Human Rights Commission (NGLHRC) must be allowed to register as an NGO, upholding lower court decisions. The Court found that the refusal by the NGOs Coordination Board was unconstitutional as it limited freedom of association based on sexual orientation. The decision was welcomed by LGBTQIA+ advocates but criticized by politicians and religious leaders.
