Texas law restricting transgender bathroom access takes effect
A Texas law known as the Texas Women's Privacy Act took effect on December 4, 2025, requiring people in state-owned facilities, schools, and universities to use bathrooms and changing rooms corresponding to their sex at birth. The law does not apply to private institutions and does not penalize individuals, but allows complaints against institutions that can be fined up to $125,000 a day. Enforcement remains unclear, and critics say it may lead to harassment of transgender people.
