Trans-targeted hate violence hits record high in Catalonia, Spain

In Catalonia, Spain, the Observatori contra la LGTBfòbia recorded 318 LGTBIphobic incidents in 2024, the highest number on record, with 25.8% targeting trans people. Physical assaults increased, with 83 cases, and 82 confirmed attacks against trans individuals, mostly trans women. The majority of incidents occurred in public spaces, and online attacks rose to 12.6% of cases. The observatory calls for stronger prevention policies from the Catalan government.
